FAQ - Buyers
Reko is a marketplace of locally produced goods. You will find an excellent selection of local produce, meat, eggs, milk, and all sorts of other good food. Our goal is to make the experience of buying and selling locally an easy and delightful experience for everyone involved.
Because margins for farmers and local food sellers are so small, we don’t charge anything to sellers. We make our money by doing the payment processing, and we pass the processing fees onto the customer rather than the seller. What this means, is that anyone buying food on Reko will have an upcharge at checkout of 5-10% depending on the size of the order (larger orders get bigger discounts). We hope over time to be able to lower this number, but for now it is at 5-10%.
If you would like to, you certainly can! We are not in the business of gatekeeping local food, and many of the farmers and local food sellers on our platform also sell in Farmers Markets and on their farmstand. We strongly believe that local food is the best food. It is better for our health, for the environment, and for local economies. Using Reko helps local food producers save time and energy by keeping all of their sales organized in one place. It makes it much easier for them when you order through Reko. Most customers find it is also significantly easier to have a one time buy and checkout experience, rather than having to make separate payments to each person they want to order from. However, if you want to work directly with a farmer, feel free!
That is completely up to the person selling the food. Many local businesses will offer delivery for a small fee (or sometimes for free) within a certain area. However, there are some sellers who cannot take the time to do a delivery route, and so you will have to pick up the order from one of their drop locations.
Reko gives you 15 minutes to cancel an order. Because of how perishable food is, you cannot cancel on a seller last minute. They may have already started buying, harvesting, or preparing the food for your order, and if you cancel it is unlikely they will be able to sell that food to someone else before it goes bad. Please be considerate about this when you order - and if something urgent comes up, reach out to the seller directly to discuss a refund or alternative pickup time / day.

A market is a group of sellers who have decided to sell together at the same time and place in order to make it easier for customers to pick up orders. This is a great way for you to buy food from multiple local sellers at once, and only have to go to one place to pick it all up! These could be Reko rings, Farmers Markets, or other types of group markets.
All customers who use Reko agree that if they place an order and no-show, the money still belongs to the seller. Please understand that food has perishability risk, and it would not be fair for customers to be able to no-show, the food goes bad, and the seller doesn’t get paid. If something comes up where you cannot pick up your order, please reach out to the seller to discuss if they can change your pickup day or time.
While we do not have anything formal implemented yet, we hope to in the near future. If you have any questions, please email Tyler at tyler@rekohub.com

No. We have many people using Reko to sell exclusively because it is so much easier for them to manage everything in one place. However, you can use whatever stack of software tools you would like.
When you sign up for a seller account on Reko, we ask for your email and phone number. We use this to send you an email and text message anytime you get an order from someone using Reko. Please be sure to keep this information up to date to be aware of the latest orders!
Reko uses Plaid to allow you to securely link your bank account for direct deposits. In order to link your account, navigate to “Earnings” and then click on “Upcoming.” You will then be prompted to link your bank account to receive payouts. Payouts are sent once you confirm that the customer has received their order and may take 1-2 business days to process.

A market is a group of sellers who have decided to sell together at the same time and place in order to make it easier for customers to pick up orders. This is a great way to cross-pollinate customers and help more people buy local. Orders that are placed in a market will automatically be split out to the appropriate seller.
All customers who use Reko agree that if they place an order and no-show, the money still belongs to the seller. We understand that food has massive perishability risk, and it would not be fair for customers to be able to no-show, the food goes bad, and you don’t get paid. So if you want, you have the option to refund the customer. But if they no-show, the money is still rightfully yours and will be sent in your next payout.
We recommend you check with your state and local laws to see what is legal to sell in your area. Reko is not going to “police” what you can and cannot sell, and we will not take any responsibility or liability if you choose to sell something that is against your local regulations. We encourage you to look into what is legal to sell in your state, and if something is not legal - we encourage you to get involved with your local politicians to help affect change and make the sale of all homemade and local grown food legal in every state.
The only listings that we will outright prohibit are drug and alcohol related listings. Because of the complexity of state and national laws surrounding the sale of drugs and alcohol, we will not allow the sale of those items on our platform for the time being.
While we do not have anything formal implemented yet, we hope to in the near future. If you have any questions, please email Tyler at tyler@rekohub.com
